First of all, two precursory precautions:

๐Ÿถ

Take care of chipping your dog, and keeping your details up to date at the National Chip Center.

๐Ÿถ

Second, make sure the dog’s collar always has a badge with your phone numbers, to contact you if someone finds the dog.

๐Ÿถ

Search for the dog in the area of the house and in the area where you saw him last time. It is a good idea to include friends/family in the searches in order to try to cover the dog’s walking path from where he was lost to the house.

๐Ÿถ

Post a photo of him on the web, Facebook, Instagram, and distribute it in the many groups of “Lost and Found Animals”. Add as many details as possible to help identify the dog and as many details as possible about where he was lost. You can also advertise on sites with lost and found boards.

๐Ÿถ

Call over phone, and yet we stress โ€“ also go, to the municipal kennel in your city to see if the dog has been picked up by them. Unfortunately, not all the kennels scan chips for dogs that were collected, so it is important to physically access them as well. At the same time, contact animal associations to see if anyone brought the dog there.

๐Ÿถ

Print ads, hang and deliver to people โ€“ distribute to dog owners in dog gardens, veterinary clinics, etc.

๐Ÿถ

If you have offered a cash prize in your ad, it is worth being aware that there are also crooks and criminals in the world who may take advantage of the sensitive situation and claim the published prize. Be careful not to write a sum of money, not to give a full address, to arrange the meeting with the honest finder (hopefully) in a public place and not to arrive alone.

๐Ÿถ

If your dog has a chip, check at the National Dog Registration Center (of the Ministry of Agriculture) if all the details are up to date. Call the center and update them that the dog was lost/disappeared.

I found a dog – what should I do?

๐Ÿ•

First of all, provide him access to water because you never know how long he’s been wandering around.

๐Ÿ•

Check to see if he has a tag with a phone number, and if there isn’t – you can go with him to a vet for a chip scan (for free). It is important to know that by law, every dog must be marked with an electronic chip. This is a necessary condition for receiving rabies vaccination, which is also mandatory by law. Therefore, responsible dog owners will mark the dog with a chip.

๐Ÿ•

Distribute the photo of the dog online and on the appropriate websites. If the dog is not lost, but has been abandoned and lives his life on the street, contact the municipal hotline or one of the associations or simply adopt him. The greatest love usually waits around the corner.
