This past year it felt like all you had to d important.
o was blink and you’d miss something
2024 was a rollercoaster. A year of hopeful moments, alongside complicated challenges. The war impacted everyone, including many animals, who have been hurt or abandoned.
We received thousands of calls to our emergency helpline, and thanks to our devoted teams we rescued thousands of cats and dogs, treating and rehabilitating them at our clinics.
Louis is just one of these stories, with an especially heartwarming ending. He was nothing but skin and bones when he first got to us. Completely hairless, suffering from a severe skin disease. After a long hospitalization, he made a stunning recovery and is now safe and loved at home with his lovely dad Omer.
Work never stopped, even under the most complex conditions. We spayed and neutered 13,450 cats and 891 dogs.
As Israeli athletes made us proud and won medals at the Paris Olympics, we made significant achievements in the legal departments:
In Haifa, we petitioned against killing wild boars, and the court ordered the Parks and Nature Reserves to improve their protocol for controlled hunting and wildlife protection.
As Israel faces attacks on all fronts, we fought attacks on animal rights:
we stopped the implementation of an emergent order of swift culling of dogs due to the war, and hardened its conditions.
Following undercover investigations we held in dairy farms, we submitted documented complaints to the Ministry of Agriculture, showing substandard conditions and sick, injured cows.
As the Knesset dealt with urgent matters, we succeeded in promoting historical bills:
the bill to ban the mating and selling of dogs – passed its first reading.
The bill to ban the use of traps – is in preparation for its first reading.
In a year of protests, we petitioned to the Supreme Court against the use of horses by the police in demonstrations and rallies.
In this complicated year, you gave us hope as you opened your hearts and homes: 367 dogs and 291 cats were given new lives thanks to you.
Butch, who had been waiting at the shelter for 9 years, longer than any other dog, was adopted at the age of 14 by dear Reut!
However, hundreds of other cats and dogs were abandoned this year – which is very much still a challenge, at this time of national crisis.
Fighting for animals is an inseparable part of our reality, even if it doesn’t always make the news. We are here for them and we couldn’t have done so without your support. Thank You.
As we sum up a year of working for the animals, we still count the days for the return of 100 hostages held in Hamas captivity. We long to see Nuni cuddle Matan, Lucas kissing Omer, Chapo jump up at Eliya with joy. Waiting to see them all home, now.
