Yesterday we filed a petition to the Supreme Court against the Minister of Agriculture Avi Dichter’s horrific decision to extend the suffering of hens in battery cages.
According to the animal protection regulations, for which we have spent years fighting, the use of the most cruel kind of cages – battery cages in which each chicken only gets 350 square centimeters – was meant to stop in 2025. After a previous two year extension, the Ministry of Agriculture has given the egg industry a further extension until 2030 to keep the hens in cramped battery cages!
These cages allow each chicken the space of less than an A4 piece of paper. They spend their entire miserable lives hardly able to move.
Let the Animals Live and Animals have filed a petition demanding the extension be revoked and the use of battery cages be stopped immediately.
Every minute these hens spend cooped up in such horrific conditions is unbearable suffering. Battery cages should be banned, ASAP!
